There is no better place in the world than Yorkshire Sculpture
Park to experience the work of Henry Moore and Barbara
Hepworth in the open air.
These pioneers of modern art were passionate about their work
being shown in natural settings, where their sculpture could become
animated by the changing light and the seasons.
Moore was an early supporter of Yorkshire Sculpture Park,
expressing a strong wish to see his work in the Country Park.
From 21 May, a new sculpture joins existing loans from Tate and
The Henry Moore Foundation. Sited in 100 acres of rolling parkland
this is the largest display of Henry Moore bronzes in the
world.
Barbara Hepworth wrote that she "kept on thinking of large works
in a landscape: this has always been a dream in my
mind". The Family of Man (1970) on YSP's Hillside
is one of her last major works: a poignant, personal and universal
family tree of figures.
YSP is the only place in Europe to see the entire piece, where
it is shown near to Hepworth's Squares with Two
Circles (1963), an important loan from Tate.
